How often do you pray for the church? Maybe you need help getting started. Let's begin with Paul's prayer for the church in Philippi, in Philippians 1:9-11, and look at how we may use it as a guide for praying for MCC. First, Paul prays that God's church would increase in love for one another. Next, he prays that this would happen through their union with Christ (relational knowledge) and ongoing exposure to God's Word (all discernment). We then see that the purpose of this increase in love is twofold: (1) conformity to Christ (discipleship) and (2) preparation for the Lord's return. Finally, the ultimate end goal of Paul's prayer for the church is the glory and praise of God. Similarly, we must pray for God's church to be conformed more and more to the image of Christ (ongoing discipleship), through the church's connection to Christ (union with Christ), and all for the glory of God. May all of our prayers for God's people keep this glorious end goal in sight-the glory of God! Let's get to praying!
